No Pants Tram Ride 2015

While the previous days weather may have acted as a deterrent for some, a determined group of pant-less pioneers assembled at midday on Sunday in Victoria Square. After gathering to confirm the plan of attack, we were on our way, confident and determined to make our fellow tram riders giggle.

No Pants Tram Ride 2015

Pants were removed by riders just prior to their assigned stops, with all kinds of ridiculousness breaking loose, as one participant – heavily engaged in conversation with a client who happened to be on the same tram, de-robed to the shocked and amused response of said client. “Are you are part time stripper?” he exclaimed; however the response was a simple smirk and ‘good bye’, as our pant-less hero exited through the tram doors.

The time for me to remove my pants neared and I was surprisingly a little nervous – what if it all went wrong? But off came the pants and I gracefully (well, as gracefully as someone like me can…) departed at Forestville. We waited for our next tram and our little group of three swapped stories of our experience thus far – with plenty of laughs.
Our next tram neared and we separated for the best effect. As we boarded, we saw fellow participants and the faces of curious onlookers. The journey continued towards Glenelg and as it did, one onlooker was particularly intrigued, and became frustrated – in a friendly way – when after asking a number of participants what was going on – to no avail. He suggested that perhaps we were too ‘ashamed’ of what we were doing to tell the truth, and then asked if he should take his pants of too – but for some reason he never actually did! Pulling onto jetty road, a good-natured tram conductor boarded and had a laugh, remembering no pants tram ride events from years passed that she herself has been apart of.

When departing at Glenelg, 2015’s event was immediately declared a success, with winners of a couple of fun awards selected – but it wasn’t over yet – we still had a return journey to tackle. An hour later we reconvened and elected two members of our party to collect pants on the way back – as part of the so-called ‘pants for peace’ initiative. This too was a great success, with laughs all round.

At Victoria Square, everyone went his or her separate ways, after a great day, looking forward to next year’s event!

No Pants Tram Ride Adelaide 2014

The basic idea is to ride the tram without pants and pretend that it is the most normal thing to do. When people see one person doing this they can easily pass them off as a crazy, but when more and more people enter the tram without pants, apparently unknown to each other, the reactions are just priceless.

This event is always great fun and with the hot weather its often more comfortable than wearing pants anyway.

If you’re interested in attending but unsure if you want to ride the tram without pants then we recommend boxers – they’re basically like shorts anyway.

If you’re a little more adventurous then go for briefs.

Please avoid revealing underwear as we’d like to keep this event fun and safe for participants and other tram riders.

Try and wear something that will create a good contrast between your upper and lower half, such as;

  • Suit
  • Work clothes
  • Motorbike jacket

There will be prizes for;

  • Best jocks and socks combo
  • Best upper half/lower half contrast

PLEASE NOTE: You should arrive at the meeting point with your pants ON. The de-pantsing happens during the event ;).

We will be meeting at Victoria Square opposite the tram stop at 12 midday.

Things to bring;

  • Metro card, multi trip or money for tram ticket
  • Bag or backpack to carry your pants after you take them off as well as your belongings as you won’t have pant pockets to put them in for most of the trip

Adelaide Airport Flashmob Dance

Adelaide Airport Flashmob Dance

Adelaide Airport Flashmob DanceA few months ago we received an email from an Australian soldier who had been serving overseas and hadn’t seen his family for 6 months. He said his wife really likes flashmobs and asked if we could help him organise a surprise flashmob dance for her to coincide with his arrival back in Adelaide. We couldn’t resist the opportunity so we said ‘sure’ and began the planning. We got Emma & Stephanie from The Dance Pad flashmob group and dance studio to help out with the choreography and teach it to our mobbers. A few rehearsals and numerous hours of home practice later brought us to the day of the event; Friday August 3rd.

Had I realised the logistics of organising a flashmob in an airport to coincide with someone’s arrival would be so tricky, I may never have agreed to do it. The flight had originally been planned for the evening but then we found out a week before that it was going to be smack bam in the middle of the day, making it difficult for some people, with work, school and uni commitments, to attend. The day of the event I felt like a spy executing a covert operation. I was in secret contact with a member of the family who was feeding me updates about the locations of our arriving home soldier and waiting wife. We learned that 1:15… then 1:20 would be the time of arrival, but how long would they be in customs? I didn’t want to miss him so I had everyone in place at 1:15. What followed was an excruciating 45 minutes wait but finally, the waiting family’s faces lit up and we knew he had arrived. I gave the signal, started the music and we quickly assembled… but the music was too soft… I quickly readjusted and away we went.

Check out the videos below for the final product. A big thanks to Emma & Stephanie from The Dance Pad, the Adelaide Airport staff, Heidi for the music, Wendy and Gail for filming and, of course, all of our great mobbers for coming out to be a part of this event.

No Pants Tram Ride 2012

It was our 5th year running the ‘No Pants Tram Ride‘ event in Adelaide, South Australia. This year we were one of 59 cities worldwide participating in Improv Everywhere’s Global No Pants Subway Ride. After temperatures in the low 40?s C the weekend before we were unlucky to have a cold and rainy day on January 8th and had a pretty small turnout of 8 for our ride. Still, it was great fun as always and we got some good reactions.

For the second leg of our ride (riding from Glenelg back into the city) we did our variation on the standard ride, dubbed ‘Pants for Peace.’ We have our participants spread throughout the tram and about halfway through the ride, one person starts walking through and telling people she is collecting pants for a charity, called ‘pants for peace,’ to give to the homeless. She asks various random people on the tram who, of course, don’t give up their pants. Eventually she comes to one of the participants who ponders for a minute then says ‘why they hell not’ and proceeds to take off and hand over their pants to much gasping and even cheering from the rest of the tram. The pants collector continues down the tram and collects pants from each of our participants who ride out the rest of the journey pantsless. This idea gets a great reaction as well and is something different to do on the way back.

We will have some photos and videos from the event up in this post shortly.

Improv Everywhere Documentary

Improv Everywhere’s Matt Adams is currently making a documentary about Improv Everywhere and is raising funds on Kickstarter to finish it.  The film will tell the story of IE and how it spread around the world. They still need more funds to get the project rolling so if this is something you’d like to see happen, head on over to this page and donate some money towards the project.

Weird World of Sports – Featuring the Adelaide Flashmob!

Adelaide’s City Messenger have recently launched their Weird World of Sports video page, featuring different types of sport being played around Adelaide. Although, it might be a stretch to call what the Adelaide Flashmob does a ‘sport,’ we didn’t say no when the opportunity came up! They came out and took some footage of our Newspaper Mama event which was done in Rundle Mall, and added it to their Weird World of Sports roundup.

What’s even better is that they asked us (Ben Teoh and Nick Morris) to be part of their actual print article too! Check it out!
